On April 23, Zayed University in UAE held an “International Day” activity. A total of more than 2,000 students from student clubs of 26 countries participated in this event. The exhibition stall of the Chinese club was carefully decorated by the Confucius Institute at Zayed University with colorful ribbons and lights hanging above, outshining other stalls. On the exhibition boards, there were Chinese spring couplets, window paper-cuts, Chinese knots and stage photos of Beijing Opera. On the stalls, there exhibited writing brush, ink stick, ink slab and paper that are the so-called “scholar's four jewels”, booklets of Chinese paintings, panda toys, Beijing Opera masks, Chinese food and various accessories. The TV was screening the photos of high-level leaders of China and UAE in diplomatic meetings repeatedly, which demonstrated the cultural exchange and friendship between the two countries.

The show started at noon. The Taiji dance by Li Yang, a teacher of the Confucius Institute, was elegant and smooth. Prof. Duan Ping performed Taiji Sword and Taiji Fan, which showcased a combination of firmness and softness. Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Zayed University, Prof. Gu Weiping, staged an excerpt from Beijing Opera “Farewell My Concubine”. Accompanied by the video and music played on the screen, Prof. Gu sang the touching lyrics with her beautiful voice that fully illustrated the profundity of Chinese culture. The audience warmly applauded her performance. A traditional Chinese costume show successfully concluded the performance. Costume models were all teachers of the Confucius Institute and Chinese teachers working at Zayed University. Dressed in glorious Tang suits and elegant Qipao (cheongsam), they demonstrated the abundance of Chinese costumes.
