Confucius Institute at University of Paderborn opens, Germany

On June 16, the Confucius Institute at University of Paderborn held its inauguration ceremony. The Institute is jointly established by the University of Paderborn and Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), with Xidian University in Shaanxi province as its Chinese partner university.

Mr. Paus, former mayor of Paderborn, Mr. Honervogt, Acting Mayor, Mr. Schäfer, President of the University of Paderborn, and Mr. Gao Xinbo, Assistant to the President of Xidian University (on behalf of the President) attended the inauguration ceremony, together with people from all walks.

Acting Mayor Mr. Honervogt said, the establishment of the Confucius Institute at University of Paderborn remarkably promotes the cooperation between China and Paderborn and its surrounding areas.

President Schäfer stressed that the inauguration of the Confucius Institute is an important milestone of the cooperation between the two universities. He expressed his hope that the Confucius Institute can help improve the exchange on research and talent training between the two universities.

Mr. Dong Qi, Minister Counsellor for Education of the Chinese Embassy in Germany sent his congratulatory letter. He said in the letter, “The Confucius Institute acts as an important bridge in enhancing the mutual understanding and communication between China and Germany. The Confucius Institute at University of Paderborn is the 16th Confucius Institute in Germany. It is hoped that the Institute can grow into a communication platform of education and culture for the two countries.”
