On May 15, 2015, Chinese Medicine Confucius Institute at Hyogo College of Medicine (CMCI at HCM), the third Academic Symposium “Academic Seminar on Integration of TCM and Western Medicine” was held in the OCTA conference hall of Hyogo University of Health Sciences (HUHS). In attendance were the Vice-Consul of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Osaka, representatives from CI in Japan, specialists from Japan’s medical and pharmaceutical societies as well as teachers and students of CMCI, a total of 250 people.

At the opening ceremony, Shinka Sohei(photo1), Hyogo College of Medicine Educational Corporation Board of Trustees Chairman and Sheng Hongqiang (photo2), Vice-Consul of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Osaka, formally greeted the participants. This was followed by the first part of the symposium by invited lecturers, Professor Kimiyasu Shiraki (photo3), the Virology Department of Toyama University and Wang Wei (photo4), Vice President of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM). This was followed by the second part of the symposium when four specialists from BUCM, from HUHS and from Japan’s medical and pharmaceutical societies exchanged opinions in a panel discussion (photo5).

The lectures and discussions by these specialists showed a high quality of research and foresight regarding the integration of TCM and Western Medicine. They also showed research and inquisitive mind in TCM education. These excellent lectures and discussions enabled the attendees to broaden their perspectives and conceptions, which were very favorably received.

CMCI at HCM, the third Academic Symposium ended in a dignified atmosphere and was concluded with great success. The symposium provided a platform of high-level academic exchange between specialists of both China and Japan. Moreover, it’ll actively promote more research and TCM education on the integration of TCM and Western Medicine.
