On April 20, during his state visit to Pakistan, President Xi Jinping met in Islamabad with representatives of friendly personages and groups of Pakistan and conferred the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence Friendship Award to them, commending the contribution they made for promoting the friendship between China and Pakistan. The National University of Modern Languages (NUML), which established the first Confucius Institute in Pakistan together with the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), was among the winners.

President Xi spoke highly of their steady conviction in China-Pakistan friendship and expressed his gratitude to people from all walks of life of Pakistan who have devoted themselves to bilateral friendship.

After the awarding ceremony, NUML President Masood Hasan said that it was such a great honor that NUML was awarded with the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence Friendship Award by President Xi Jinping. He also expressed that the Confucius Institute in Islamabad would make great efforts to promote Chinese language and culture more extensively and make new contributions to the friendship between the people in the two countries.
