On March 29th 2015, the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College and Secondary School Students in Sweden was held at Stockholm University. The Confucius Institute in Lulea led a team to participate in the competition of the senior secondary school level for the first time and championed both group and individual contests.

This competition was hosted by the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in the Kingdom of Sweden. The co-organizers were the Confucius Institute in Lulea, the Confucius Institute in Karlstad University and the Confucius Institute at Blekinge Institute of Technology. The competition consisted of three rounds, including “Chinese speech”, “Q&A session” and “Chinese talent show”. All eight teams joined the competition. With thoughtful guidance of the Chinese and foreign teachers from the Confucius Institute and careful preparation of the students, two contestants from the Confucius Institute in Lulea showed outstanding Chinese language skills, talents and deep understanding of Chinese culture, which were unanimously applauded by the judges and audience. The Confucius Institute in Lulea eventually won the championships of both the group and individual contests.

The “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition aims at motivating young people in all countries to learn Chinese and understand Chinese language and culture. Currently, this competition has become an important platform for foreign college and secondary school students to learn Chinese and know about China and Chinese culture. The achievements made by the students from the Confucius Institute in Lulea greatly encouraged Swedish students to learn Chinese, further expanded the local impact of the Confucius Institute and played a positive role in promoting and popularizing Chinese language and culture in Sweden.
