First Confucius Institute in Bosnia and Herzegovina officially inaugurated

On April 2nd, 2015, the first Confucius Institute in Bosnia and Herzegovina, jointly established by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and the University of Sarajevo, was officially inaugurated at the University of Sarajevo. The Chinese partner university of this Confucius Institute is Northwest Normal University (NWNU).

Around 120 guests attended the unveiling ceremony, including Mr. Amer Kapetanovic, Assistant Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina; Mr. Muharem Avdispahic, President of the University of Sarajevo; Mr. Dong Chunfeng, Chinese Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina; and Mr. Liu Zhongkui, President of NWNU.

Both sides signing the collaborative agreement at the inauguration ceremony

In Mr. Dong Chunfeng’s speech, he said that at the 20th anniversary marking the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between China and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the establishment of this Confucius Institute would offer opportunities for students in Bosnia and Herzegovina to learn Chinese and understand Chinese culture, which would help promote the cultural exchange between the two countries.

Mr. Kapetanovic also addressed the ceremony and said that the Confucius Institute at the University of Sarajevo would surely become a bridge to strengthen mutual understanding between China and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
