To deepen the understanding of Confucius Institute teachers towards local students and to reflect on cross-cultural communication experience, the Confucius Institute at Tajikistan Nationality University launched “the Composition Contest for the Fifth Anniversary of the Confucius Institute” at the beginning of January. It is open to all students and teachers of the Institute and teaching sites. The theme of the composition contest is the cross-cultural communication in Chinese teaching, in-class and extracurricular activities, and cultural activities between Chinese teachers and Tajikistan students.

The contest was divided into Teacher Group and Student Group. It received over 160 compositions, most of which reflected the approval, respect, gratitude and passion of Tajikistan students towards Chinese teachers, showed the commitment of teachers to the teaching cause in Tajikistan, depicted the touching emotion between teachers and students, and recorded some little-known stories. Precious details of teaching and communication were recorded in the compositions from different perspective and in different languages.

After prudent selection, two teachers won the first prize in the Teacher Group because of their meticulous observation and contemplation in daily life, that is, Hu Xuejun for his/her Tajikistan Women in My Eyes and Ma Yuan for his/her Case Study of Cross-communication of Teachers in the Confucius Institute. Two students won the first prize in the Student Group, namely Nosirov Amriddin, a Tajikistan graduate student in Beijing, and Mamasodikov Sherzo (Yu Rui), an undergraduate student majoring in International Chinese Education in East China Normal University in Shanghai.

Both Chinese and foreign directors of the Confucius Institute at Tajikistan Nationality University and Professor Luan Rui at Xinjiang Normal University awarded the prize to the winners. He also encouraged participants to keep learning Chinese language, familiarize themselves with Chinese culture, and enhance their communication capability.
