Kong Zi Institute at University of Malaya, Malaysia, holds Malaysia 1st Nationwide Weiqi Examination

On March 21st, 2015, Malaysia 1st Nationwide Weiqi Examination, jointly organized by the Kong Zi Institute at University of Malaya and Malaysia Weiqi Association, was officially opened.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Chen Zhong, Chinese Director of the Kong Zi Institute, University of Malaya, explained the positive effects of weiqi on the development of students’ thinking habits, the cultivation of their characters, and the training of their manners. Tiong Kee Soon, Chair of Malaysia Weiqi Association, expressed the hope that more young weiqi players would join the association and compete in international games for Malaysia.

This examination consisted of two sections, a written test and a chess play. The contestants, who were of a wide range of ages from 10 to 50, were divided into three categories, beginners, intermediate and advanced. Those who achieved a certain number of wins in the round robin competition were to be awarded with relevant certificates.

The Malaysia 1st Nationwide Weiqi Examination aims at providing standards for different grades in the sport of weiqi in Malaysia, stimulating weiqi fans’ interest in further learning, and promoting the communication among weiqi players in Malaysia.
