China keeps time-honored friendly ties with Montenegro. The past year of 2014 has witnessed even closer relations between the two countries. President Filip Vujanović’s meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping during his visit to China and the meeting of Montenegro’s prime minister and Chinese Premier in Belgrade have both enhanced bilateral political mutual trust and taken the bilateral pragmatic cooperation to the next level under the China-CEE cooperative mechanism. The Montenegro North-South Expressway Project has been launched by China Road and Bridge Corporation, which marks an important breakthrough in the bilateral pragmatic cooperation. Meanwhile, collaboration between the two countries in such areas as energy sources, tourism and communications has also progressed.

The establishment of the Confucius Institute at University of Montenegro, as an important achievement of the people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries and a friendly bond between the two peoples, opens a new chapter for China and Montenegro in their cultural exchanges and cooperation and plays a positive role in promoting friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation between China and Montenegro in various areas.

President Filip Vujanović said in his speech that the relations between China and Montenegro enjoy a close friendship, and that the cooperation in areas such as shipbuilding, transportation infrastructure and energy sources has remarkably advanced. He added that his talks with President Xi Jinping last August were fruitful, and he believed that the Confucius Institute will become a bridge of friendship connecting the peoples in China and Montenegro and help the bilateral relations further develop.

The Confucius Institute at University of Montenegro is to officially offer Chinese language courses in March, 2015.
