The 9th Confucius Institute Conference was held in Xiamen from December 7 to 8, 2014. Over 2000 delegates, including Confucius institute Chinese and foreign directors, collaborating university presidents and other distinguished guests, attended the conference. Madam Liu Yandong, Vice Premier of People’s Republic of China delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony and conferred awards to 25 outstanding institutions among 500 Confucius institutes worldwide.

The Confucius Institute at Pace University (Pace CI) was awarded “Outstanding Confucius Institute 2014”, a recognition of Pace CI’s great achievement, and a result of successful collaboration of all levels between its Chinese and U.S. partners. Also attending the conference were senior administrators of Nanjing Normal University and Chairman of Jiangsu Phoenix Publishing and Media Group, who were among many others congratulating Pace CI on its outstanding award, the first such high-profile acknowledgement awarded to a Nanjing Normal-partnered Confucius institute.

Hanban Associate Director Wang Yongli met with Dr. Joseph Ryan, Pace University trustee and president envoy, Dr. Niu Weihua, Pace CI U.S. Director, and Dr. Zhu Min of Pace CI Chinese Director. Also joining the meeting were Vice President Miao Jiandong and Director Gao Liping of Nanjing Normal University. Wang congratulated Pace CI and listened attentively to Director Niu’s report on Pace CI’s previous work, particularly on its Faculty Seminar Program, which was launched for the third consecutive year (2015) with a renewed focus on joint graduate degree programs and their curriculum development. Wang said high praise of the collaborative efforts between Pace University and Nanjing Normal University.

Another featured project of Pace CI in 2014 is the development of Phoenix Chinese Learning App. Director Zhu Min did a project progress presentation titled Phoenix Chinese Learning App and Localization of Chinese Learning Textbook on CI Directors Forum; the report turned out to be highly received. Dr. Ryan also addressed CI Conference’s President Forum on Establishing CI Alumni Club and CI Endowment.

During the conference, Chairman Chen Haiyan of Jiangsu Phoenix Publishing and Media Group headed a delegation to meet with Pace CI leadership on future program development.

Year 2014 has witnessed Pace CI takes full advantage of synergy through three-party collaboration, reinforces its strengths, and continues to reinvent itself to become an institution of global influence. Such endeavors pay off as we are now proudly named “Outstanding Confucius Institute”. This is such a great honor as well as an inspiration for our enduring growth.
