The Training Center of Chinese Language Teachers for Central and Eastern Europe unveiled in Hungary

On November 4, the Confucius Institute at Eötvös Loránd University in Hungary held a grand inauguration ceremony for the Training Center of Chinese Language Teachers for Central and Eastern Europe. It is the first regional institution founded overseas by Hanban to train local Chinese language teachers.

Professor Barna Mezey, Rector of Eötvös Loránd University addressed the ceremony, expressing his gratitude to Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) for its trust in Eötvös Loránd University and strong support in establishing the training center. He believes the training center will bring about a better future for the Confucius Institute at Eötvös Loránd University.

László Szabó, Hungarian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade remarked in his speech that Hungary is honored to become the training center of local Chinese language teachers for 16 countries in Central and Eastern Europe, and he wishes the center a great success. He believes the friendly relationship and cultural and economic connection between the two countries will develop continuously and expects more and more investment in Hungary by Chinese enterprises.

Chinese Ambassador to Hungary Xiao Qian said, thanks to the efforts of all sides, remarkable achievements have been made in the cooperation among China and Central and Eastern European countries, showing a thriving tendency. The tendency not only creates more opportunities for educational communication and cooperation among China and Central and Eastern European countries, but also imposes higher demands on the Confucius Institute to promote the personnel training in language and culture education. He believes that the training center will foster more high-level Chinese language teachers and Chinese culture ambassadors, and make greater contributions to the friendship and cooperation among China and Central and Eastern European countries.

Mr. Wang Yongli, Deputy Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Deputy Director General of Hanban, read the congratulatory letter at the inauguration ceremony from Madam Xu Lin, Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Director General of Hanban. In her letter, Madam Xu Lin described the training center as the fruit of sincere cooperation between China and Hungary, which will lay a solid foundation for strengthening the cooperation among China and Central and Eastern European countries. She believes through the joint efforts of Chinese and foreign sides, the training center will set an excellent model for Chinese language teacher training all over the world.

Mr. Wang, Deputy Director General of Hanban, said in his speech that the establishment of the Training Center of Chinese Language Teachers for Central and Eastern Europe marks an innovation in the training model for developing local Chinese language teachers in foreign countries, which conforms to the rising demand for high-quality Chinese language teachers in Central and Eastern European countries. It will further promote the development of Chinese language teaching staff in Central and Eastern European countries.

Many distinguished guests attended the inauguration ceremony, including Vice President Yan Guohua of Beijing Foreign Studies University, the Chinese partner university of the Confucius Institute at Eötvös Loránd University, former Rector of Eötvös Loránd University and Honorary Member of the Council of Confucius Institute Headquarters Ferenc Hudecz, Dean of Faculty of Arts Tamás Dezső, and Chinese language teachers of Central and Eastern European countries who participate in the second round of training course.
