World’s first Science and Technology Confucius Institute established in Belarus

As the third Confucius Institute in Belarus, the Science and Technology Confucius Institute (STCI) at Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU) opened in Minsk, the capital city of Belarus on October 21. The grand inauguration ceremony was held at the hall of the BNTU.

The STCI, the first of its kind in the world, was co-established by BNTU and China’s Northeastern University. Attendees of the ceremony included Anatoly Tozik, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus, Cui Qiming, Chinese Ambassador to Belarus, Boris M. Khroustalev, Rector of BNTU and Zhao Ji, President of Northeastern University. Anatoly Tozik noted at the ceremony that the Belarusian government would lend full support to the continuous improvement and development of the Confucius Institutes in Belarus. He also pointed out that now the Confucius Institutes in Belarus have got a complete educational and academic system with the third one established.

Earlier on that day, the opening ceremony of Chinese Ancient Porcelain Culture and Technology Exhibition was held at BNTU. Over ten delicate replicas of Chinese royal palace porcelain pieces on display were gifts presented by Northeastern University to BNTU for the special occasion of the establishment of the STCI. The purpose of this exhibition was to introduce to the Belarusian people the time-honored culture and technology of Chinese porcelain.
