Madam Xu Lin awarded honorary doctorate by Tajikistan Nationality University

On September 12, Tajikistan Nationality University awarded an honorary doctorate to Madam Xu Lin, Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Director General of Hanban, to commend her outstanding contributions to establishing the Confucius Institute and promoting Chinese language teaching. Mr. Imomov Muhammadyosuf, president of Tajikistan Nationality University, conferred the diploma of honorary doctorate upon Madam Xu Lin.

Tajikistan Nationality University is one of the top-notch universities in Tajikistan, and the title of honorary doctorate is the highest honor that the university can possibly give to foreigners. Over the past 65 years, a number of important figures, such as president of Kazakhstan, president of Islamic Republic of Iran and president of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, have received honorary doctorates from the University. As the 14th recipient, Madam Xu Lin has become the first and only Chinese granted the honor.

Ms. Xu also paid a visit to the Confucius Institute at Tajikistan Nationality University and the teaching sites under it. Established in 2008, the Confucius Institute at Tajikistan Nationality University officially operated in 2009. Up to now, it has set up 21 teaching sites in Tajikistan kindergartens, elementary and secondary schools, and universities. In 2013, there were a total of 3,414 registered students. In 2011 and 2012, the Confucius Institute at Tajikistan Nationality University was awarded as one of the ‘Confucius Institutes of the Year’.
