The 2nd In-Service Training Workshop for Confucius Institute Directors in 2014 opens

The 2nd In-Service Training Workshop for Confucius Institute Directors this year was opened at Xiamen University on the morning of July 22, 2014. 20 foreign directors of Confucius Institutes from eight countries worldwide came to attend the workshop. Their working language is Chinese.

Those who attended and delivered a speech at the opening ceremony included Mr. Wang Yongli, Deputy Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Deputy Director General of Hanban, Ms. Zhan Xinli, Vice President of Xiamen University, and Mr. Mao Tongwen, Director of the Southern Base of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Office of Confucius Institute Affairs. Mr. Su Zixing, the Party Secretary of the Southern Base of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Office of Confucius Institute Affairs, chaired the opening ceremony.

Mr. Wang Yongli recalled in his speech the ten-year rapid development of Confucius Institutes since the founding of the world’s first one in 2004. Confucius Institutes, which have become important platforms for spreading Chinese culture and strengthening the educational and cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries, are moving toward a new stage of development. He hopes that the foreign directors present could have more discussions and exchanges, provide more valuable suggestions, jointly create a new situation in the development of Confucius Institutes, and better promote the multicultural development of the world.

Ms. Zhan Xinli, on behalf of Xiamen University, expressed her welcome to the foreign directors. She introduced briefly not only the development of the University from various aspects, such as the construction of Confucius Institutes and Chinese-foreign cooperation, but also the achievements of the University in supporting the establishment of Confucius Institutes, promoting foreign exchanges, and strengthening its own internationalization. She said that Xiamen University would make a thoughtful arrangement and do everything it could to provide well organization and good services, so as to run the workshop well. Confucius Institutes are bridges for enhancing the friendship between Chinese people and peoples of other countries. She added that Xiamen University would continue to value and support the international promotion of Chinese language and make active contributions to the global development of Confucius Institutes.
