Chinese President Xi Jinping attends signing ceremony of establishment of Confucius Institutes in Brazil

BRASILIA, July 17--In the presence of Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Brazilian counterpart Dilma Rousseff, Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Director General of Hanban Xu Lin respectively signed agreements on the joint establishment of Confucius Institutes with the heads of the Federal University of Ceara, the State University of Campinas and the Federal University of Pará.

Later, also witnessed by Presidents Xi Jinping and Dilma Rousseff, Xu Lin signed with Brazilian Minister of Education José Henrique Paim Fernandes the Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Confucius Institutes at Federal Universities in Brazil and the Memorandum of Understanding on Chinese Language Teaching in Brazil.

As the exchanges in economy and politics between China and Brazil become increasingly frequent, more Brazilians wish to better learn about China through studying Chinese. Confucius Institutes can not only offer Chinese language courses of high quality but also serve as a platform for cultural exchanges between the two countries. Up to now, ten Confucius Institutes and two Confucius Classrooms have opened in Brazil.
