In addition, through active cooperation with relevant departments of the Brazilian Government and the Rio de Janeiro State Government, Director Qiao, in order to integrate the Confucius Institute into the University and local community, organized many celebrations of traditional Chinese festivals, which were highly praised by local residents. Meanwhile, she made great efforts in localizing the activities of the Confucius Institute and incorporating these activities into those of Brazilians. The cultural activities organized by her have become the brands of the Institute, such as “Confucius Institute Open Day”, “Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro Open Day”, and “Rio de Janeiro Art Week”, which all achieved great success, attracted many faculty members and students of the University and residents in Rio de Janeiro, and triggered their curiosity about Chinese culture and their enthusiasm for learning Chinese language.

In 2014, under the strong support of Director Qiao Jianzhen, the Rio de Janeiro State is preparing to build a real full-time “Portuguese-Chinese bilingual school”, whose education will focus on mathematics. The school, a pioneering one in both Latin America and the world, is welcomed by the Rio de Janeiro State Government, the Education Department of Rio de Janeiro State, teachers and students within the education system of Rio de Janeiro State, and parents of these students. It will also put an end to the situation that there is no formal Chinese language course in Brazilian public schools.
