Confucius Institute at Georgia State University and Foreign Affairs Office of Shandong Province co-host ‘The Legacy of Confucius’ Photo Exhibition
On June 1, 2014, ‘The Legacy of Confucius’ Photo Exhibition, co-organized by the Confucius Institute at Georgia State University (GSU) and the Foreign Affairs Office of Shandong Province, was officially opened at the Rialto Center for the Arts of Georgia State University. Some distinguished guests from China and the US attended this grand opening ceremony, including Mr. Sam Olens, Attorney General of Georgia, Mr. Li Qiangmin, Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Houston, Mr. Guo Shuqing, Governor of Shandong Province, and Mr. Mark Becker, President of Georgia State University.

First, the opening ceremony started with the opening remarks by Dr. Gu Baotong, American Director of the Confucius Institute at GSU. Then, several distinguished guests delivered their speeches respectively, including GSU President Mark Becker, Attorney-General Sam Olens, Consul General Li Qiangmin, and Governor Guo Shuqing. In their speeches, they all expressed their congratulations on the opening of this photo exhibition and their admiration for Confucius as a great thinker in ancient China. The Atlanta City Council also sent a special representative to attend the ceremony and read the special declaration from the City Council. On behalf of the people of Atlanta, he also sent congratulations on the opening of the exhibition and presented the declaration to Governor Guo Shuqing. Then, Governor Guo Shuqing, Consul General Li Qiangmin, Attorney-General Sam Olens and GSU President Mark Becker joined together in cutting the ribbon. Afterwards, on behalf of the Provincial Government of Shandong, Governor Guo Shuqing presented the photo albums of Confucius to the Georgia State University.

A total of around 100 guests attended this grand opening ceremony. Among them are local reputed and distinguished personages working in fields of politics, business, education and culture, and the public who were immensely interested in Confucian culture, such as Mr. John Parkerson, President of World Trade Center (Atlanta), Ms. Leslie Griffin, Senior Vice President of UPS, Dr. Shell Huang, Senior Director of Packaging Research of Coca Cola, Mr. Rick Woronieckie, Senior Vice President of Ackerman, and Ms. Stella Xu, Manager for China Initiatives of the Georgia Department of Economic Development.
