Chinese Vice-President Mr. Li Yuanchao Holds Cordial Exchanges with Faculties and Students of the Confucius Institute at St. Petersburg State University
On May 22nd, 2014, during his official visit to St. Petersburg, Chinese Vice-President Li Yuanchao made a special visit to St. Petersburg State University and held cordial exchanges with faculties and students of the Confucius Institute at this university.
Accompanied by Mr. Nikolay Krohachev, Rector of St. Petersburg State University, Mr. Li Yuanchao came to the Petrovsky Hall which was located at the second floor of the main building of the University. Walking along the corridor, he viewed the exhibition of the achievements in teaching and other fields by the Confucius Institute. Then, Mr. Alexey Rodionov, Russian Director of the Confucius Institute, briefly introduced the long history of sinological studies at this University, which enjoyed fame for its profound influence in this field. He also presented the major achievements by the Institute and the priorities of its future development. Afterwards, Mr. Li Yuanchao talked with some of the teachers and students of the Institute. First, Miss Anastasia Gabur, winner of the Best Eloquence Award at the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition in St. Petersburg, shared her Chinese dream based on her experience of being a language volunteer at the Sochi Winter Olympic Games. Next, Miss Amina Abieva, who just started her Chinese teaching career at the Institute, told her way from being a student of Chinese to a teacher. Then, Mr. Oleg Logunov, winner of the Best Performance Award at the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition, performed a stand-up comedy named Throwing Boots, which fully showcased his excellent Chinese proficiency. Their stories and performances were well-received and highly praised by Mr. Li Yuanchao.

Then, Mr. Li Yuanchao delivered a warm speech. In the speech, he said, “After I saw the exhibition of the teaching achievements of your Institute, I feel very gratified and pleased for all your wonderful accomplishments.” He praised the Institute that it well deserves the honor of “the Confucius Institute of the Year”.
In his speech, Mr. Li Yuanchao pointed out that China and Russia complement each other in strategic cooperation and share huge potentials in future cooperation. He also emphasized that cultural and educational exchanges play a fundamental role in the development of relations between the two countries. He sincerely wishes that the faculties and students of the Institute would continue to work together to promote the communication and interaction between talented young people of the two countries, make contributions to overcoming the cultural differences and barriers in fields of language, information and law, and cultivate more experts on sinological studies.
