Confucius Classroom establishes at the University School at the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma, America

The establishment ceremony of Confucius Classroom at the University School at the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma was held at the school gymnasium on March 7, 2014. Many distinguished guests attended the ceremony, including Dr. Roger Blais, Provost of the University of Tulsa, Dr. Pat Hollingsworth, Director of the University School, Ms. Debbie Newton, Program Officer of the University of Tulsa, Ms. Yin Can, Chinese language teacher, and Mr. Rex Burnett from the Confucius Institute at the University of Oklahoma. All the students of the University School and some of the Chinese students of the University of Tulsa also participated in this event.

At the ceremony, Dr. Pat Hollingsworth, Director of the University School, made a welcome speech to all attendees at first and then briefly introduced the Chinese programs carried out by the school. Mr. Rex Burnett, on behalf of the Confucius Institute at the University of Oklahoma, conferred the certificate for Confucius Classroom at the University School; The Provost, Dr. Roger Blais, on behalf of the University of Tulsa, presented gifts to the Confucius Institute at the University of Oklahoma. The ceremony was followed by performances with rich Chinese characteristics. The students from the seventh and eighth grades performed the dragon dance, and the fifth grade student Sable Philips gave a performance of Chinese martial arts.

The Confucius Classroom at the University School at the University of Tulsa was the third one established by the Confucius Institute at the University of Oklahoma, following the first two classrooms at Northeastern State University and University of Central Oklahoma. Its establishment will play a facilitating and exemplary role in Chinese language teaching and culture programs in local primary and secondary schools.
