Official Opening Ceremony Held for NEOMA Confucius Institute for Business-Rouen in France

On March 28, 2014, the official opening ceremony for the sixteenth Confucius Institute in France, the NEOMA Confucius Institute for Business-Rouen, was held in Rouen. Mr. Laurent Fabius, French Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Madam Xu Lin, Chief Executive of the Confucius Institute Headquarters and Director General of Hanban, attended the ceremony and unveiled the nameplate of the Institute together. Mr. Xue Jinwen, Chancellor of Nankai University, Mr. Ma Yansheng, Minister-Counsellor of Education Office of Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the French Republic, Mr. Nicolas Mayeur-Rossignol, President of the Regional Council of Upper Normandy, Mr. Frédéric Sanchez, President of Rouen Urban district, Mr. Yves Bénard, President of NEOMA Business School, and Mr. Frank Bostyn, Dean of NEOMA Business School, also attended this opening ceremony with other 300 students and representatives from all walks of life in France. Madam Sylvie Bermann, French Ambassador to China, delivered the first lecture for this new Confucius Institute.

Mr. Laurent Fabius, French Minister of Foreign Affairs, congratulated this Confucius Institute on its official opening in his remarks. He pointed out that at the time when China and France are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries and when Chinese President Xi Jinping is on a state visit to France, the establishment of the NEOMA Confucius Institute for Business-Rouen will serve as a new bridge for educational and business exchanges between the two countries.

In Madam Xu’s speech, she pointed out that the NEOMA Confucius Institute for Business-Rouen possesses advantageous location and outstanding programs with support from French governments at all levels and local enterprises. She believes that the Institute will develop rapidly. Meanwhile, the Confucius Institute Headquarters will provide all necessary support for the Confucius Institute in selecting qualified teachers, sponsoring students, academic exchanges and more.

The NEOMA Confucius Institute for Business-Rouen is the first of its kind in France and is jointly established by NEOMA Business School and Nankai University in China. Situated at Rouen, a vital port city in France, this Confucius Institute will certainly open a new window for French enterprises to have more direct access to China. Before this one, a total of six Confucius Institutes for Business have been established in America, Great Britain, Denmark, Brazil and Greece.
