On April 1st, 2014, “Zambia•China Jinlin Invest and Trade Seminar” was held in Zambia-China Economic & Trade Cooperation Zone (ZCCZ) in Lusaka. Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia (UNZA), taking advantage of this favorable opportunity, took part in the fair and organized students to be volunteers.

This seminar was sponsored by Zambia Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Economic and Commercial Councilor’s Office of Chinese Embassy to Zambia, Zambia Development Agency and ZCCZ, and hosted by Jilin Province Overseas Agriculture Investment & Development Group Co. Ltd., Zambia Association of Manufacturers and Zambia Chamber of Small and Medium Business Association. More than twenty companies of all walks of life from China and Zambia came to the exhibition.

As the unique Chinese cultural institution in Zambia, Confucius Institute at UNZA took part in this exhibition and brought its own glamour to the visitors. Besides, entrusted by the hosts, Confucius Institute organized 34 students to be volunteers to guide, receive and help the visitors. Before the exhibition began, the Chinese teachers trained all the volunteers to enable them to have some basic knowledge of reception etiquette, courtesy language and the like. In the fair, all the volunteer students dressed uniforms and showed great enthusiasm to present products and service to the visitors from China and Zambia. In the presentation and reception, the volunteers sometimes spoke with Chinese sentences, which surprised the participants, and their excellent performance won great compliment from the host agencies. Through working, the students became more and more excited, for what they had learned and what they were doing brought them a sense of achievement. They all wished to have more chances to participate in such kind of activities so that they could practice their Chinese and make more progress.

Organizing students to take part in the fair, Confucius Institute at UNZA not only propagandized itself to the companies and enterprises from China and Zambia, but also obtained precious opportunity for students to practice their Chinese language and working skills.
