Confucius Classroom at Lewiston-Porter High School Holds Inauguration Ceremony, U.S.

On 9 February 2014, the Confucius Classroom at Lewiston-Porter High School, a subsidiary of the Confucius Institute at State University of New York at Buffalo (UBCI), held its inauguration ceremony in the high school’s hall.

Through five years of hard work, the Confucius Classroom at Lewiston-Porter High School has eventually become the first of its kind of all the teaching sites of the UBCI. American Director of the UBCI Yu Jiyuan, Executive Director of the UBCI Yang Wenzhong, Chinese Director of the UBCI Lu Qiaomei, Chancellors of Lewiston-Porter High School, and school leaders from Tianjin No. Two High School in China attended the inauguration ceremony, which was hosted by Principal of Lewiston-Porter High School Paul Casseri.

Principal Paul Casseri first introduced the history of the Confucius Classroom to local residents who came to the ceremony, and then said that the Classroom would bring a breath of fresh air to the local community. Professor Yu Jiyuan, Director of the UBCI, delivered a speech to express his expectations for the Confucius Classroom. After his speech, Director Yu granted the plate of “Confucius Classroom” to Mr. Casseri and then took a photo together with him.

Later, a variety of spectacular art shows were put on. The Golden Summit Club performed Chinese dragon dances and Martial arts; Peter played Guzheng solo; children from the local community brought folk dances; students from Tianjin No. Two High School sang Love Each Other together; elementary school students learning Chinese at Lewiston-Porter High School presented songs and dances Two Tigers and Where Is My Friend; and the symphony orchestra and choir from the School played music with a strong American flavor.

All the shows well combined American elements with Chinese ones, receiving rounds of applause from the audience. The inauguration ceremony concluded in a merry and harmonious atmosphere.
