The Establishment Ceremony of the Confucius Classroom at the University School at the University of Tulsa

On Mar. 7, 2014, the establishment ceremony of the Confucius Classroom at the University School at the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma state, was held at the school gymnasium. All the students from the University School at the University of Tulsa, their parents, Chinese students from the University of Tulsa, participated. Provost of the University of Tulsa Dr. Roger Blais, the Director of the University School Dr. Pat Hollingsworth, Program Officer Ms. Debbie Newton, the Chinese teacher of the University School Ms. Yin Can, OUCI staff Mr. Rex Burnett also attended the event.

Dr. Hollingsworth, the Director of University School gave a warm welcome speech to all attendees. She introduced the guests (Dr. Blais and Debbie Newton from TU and Rex Burnett from OUCI) and the Chinese teacher, as well as gave brief information of the Chinese program in University School. Then, our 5th grade student Sable Phillips demonstrated a short Kung Fu show. Followed that, our 7th and 8th grade students brought us a dragon dance and drum performance.

The establishment of the university school Confucius Classroom will promote the Chinese language and culture programs in the elementary and secondary schools in the local area.
