On January 25th, 2014, several days before the Spring Festival of the Year of the Horse, Belgium-China Association (BCA), together with the Confucius Institute in Brussels, organized some interactive activities for experiencing Chinese culture at its newly bought and decorated office site. With an aim to promote Chinese culture, the activities provided people in Europe with a great opportunity to experience and interact with the profound Chinese culture.

Around 60 people, including members from the BCA, students from the Confucius Institute and students from the No. 4 Middle School of European Union, gathered together in the newly decorated lecture hall at the Confucius Institute. They watched a film clip on Chinese lion dance and enjoyed Chinese Yangko dances performed by students from the middle school. Also, they were highly enthusiastic and attentive in watching a Chinese painter painting Chinese peony flowers. Each guest was given a piece of Xuan paper (a high quality paper for traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy) with their Chinese names on as a present. After that, in a congenial and pleasant atmosphere, all the participants were invited to join in the traditional custom for Chinese Spring Festival——making dumplings. The whole event lasted for three hours, and all the participants enjoyed themselves with laughter and cheerful talks. In this event, they not only experienced Chinese culture, but also learned the mission and prospects of the Confucius Institute.

This event received great support and praise from the Culture Section and Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in the Kingdom of Belgium. Mr. Xiang Shihai, Cultural Counsellor, and Mr. Tao Hongjian, Educational Counsellor, came to the event to celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival and experience Chinese culture together with the members of the Belgium-China Association and the students. Mr. Tao delivered a warm speech to welcome all the Chinese and foreign guests.

Also, Mr. Hans Van Duysen, President of the Belgium-China Association, took this opportunity to congratulate on the coming of Chinese New Year, and introduced the development of the BCA and the Confucius Institute and the wish of opening up the Institute and promoting Chinese culture.
