At 11 a.m. on November 18 local time, the inauguration ceremony of the Confucius Institute at the University of Tirana, the very first of its kind in Albania, was held at the University of Tirana.

All as eyewitnesses of this moment, a total of over 200 people attended the inauguration ceremony, including Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, Chinese Ambassador to Albania Ye Hao, Albanian Minister of Education and Sports Nikola, President of the University of Tirana Kule, President of Beijing Foreign Studies University Han Zhen, along with the deans of different faculties, the local and Chinese students as well as the government funded Chinese language teachers of the University of Tirana.

The congratulatory letter from Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters Madam Xu Lin was read out at the ceremony. “The establishment of the Confucius Institute at the University of Tirana is a milestone in the history of China-Albania friendly relations.” “I believe that with the full support of the Albanian government, the University of Tirana and Beijing Foreign Studies University, like two brothers, will certainly collaborate closely and make progress together, making this Confucius Institute a beacon of Chinese language teaching and cultural exchanges in Europe.”

Albanian Prime Minister Rama, Albanian Minister of Education and Sports Nikola, Chinese Ambassador to Albania Ye Hao, President of the University of Tirana Kule and President of Beijing Foreign Studies University Han Zhen respectively delivered a speech.

Albanian Prime Minister Rama said that to strengthen the educational cooperation is conducive to promoting the friendship between the Albanian people and the Chinese people. He firmly believed that through the Confucius Institute, the Albanian people will gain a deeper understanding of Chinese language and culture, thus promoting the cooperation and exchange in other various fields.

Ambassador Ye Hao remarked that the Confucius Institute serves as a platform for understanding Chinese culture and studying Chinese. He further pointed out that today not only do an increasing number of Chinese enterprises and tourists start to set up businesses in or visit Albania, but more and more Albanian enterprises begin to cooperate with Chinese ones. With closer ties between the two countries, he who has a good mastery of Chinese language and culture will for sure be a favorite in the future job market. He expressed his wishes that all the Albanian students committed to studying Chinese language and Chinese culture can achieve success, and can eventually be the bridge of communication between China and Albania and realize the national rejuvenation of Albania.

President of Beijing Foreign Studies University Han Zhen quoted “Long distance separates no bosom friends”, a famous line from a classical Chinese poem, to describe the relations between China and Albania. He said that the Confucius Institute will provide, in an all-round and multilevel manner, Chinese language teaching and tests, Chinese language teacher training, information consultation of China and so forth for the needs of the Albanian people to study Chinese and know more about China, adding that Beijing Foreign Studies University will make full use of its own merits and contribute to the development of the Confucius Institute at the University of Tirana.

Later, Presidents Han Zhen and Kule jointly inaugurated the Confucius Institute at the University of Tirana, and then all the guests paid a visit to the specialized classrooms and offices of the Confucius Institute with great interest.

The inauguration ceremony was aired live and covered by several major media in Albania.
