The First International Seminar on the Development and Outlook of Chinese Teaching in Kyrgyzstan Held by the Issyk-Kul Lake

From October 19 to 20, 2013, the Confucius Institute at the Kyrgyz State National University held the International Seminar on the Development and Outlook of Chinese Teaching in Kyrgyzstan at the Raduga Hotel nearby the Issyk-Kul Lake. The opening ceremony was presided over by Kultaeva Umut Baimuratovna, the Kyrgyz director of this Confucius Institute; and Xia Juncheng, consulate of the Chinese Embassy to Kyrgyzstan, Turdakunova N.B., assistant to the Chairman of the Committee of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Kyrgyz parliament, Sarymzakova R.K., vice president of the Kyrgyz State National University, and Liao Zeyu, professor of Xinjiang Normal University, attended and addressed the opening ceremony. 43 delegates from Xinjiang Normal University, Confucius Institute at Tajik National University, Confucius Institute at Osh State University, Confucius Institute at Kyrgyz State National University and its subordinate organizations for Chinese teaching were present at the seminar. The seminar was live covered by Kyrgyzstan Branch of Chinese Xinhua News Agency and Kyrgyz State Television.

The seminar was divided into three parts: academic presentations, group discussions and summary. In the first section, Ataeva S.T., principal of No. 69 Middle School of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Zheng Qi, deputy director of the Confucius Institute at Osh State University, Zhao Yongliang, representative from the Confucius Institute at Bishkek Humanities University of Kyrgyzstan, Fang Xiaohua, professor from the School of Languages of Xinjiang Normal University, Shodiev R.A., the Tajik director of the Confucius Institute at Tajik State National University, and Ban Zhenlin, representative of the Confucius Institute at Kyrgyz State National University, delivered a speech on the following topics respectively: problems, solutions and means in the establishment and development of teaching sites of the Confucius Institute in Kyrgyzstan,; the status quo, problems and prospect of Kyrgyz Chinese teaching and promotion of Chinese culture; Kyrgyzstan and China’s Xinjiang; similarities and differences of bilingual education and teaching. After the speeches, discussions were carried out in one Russian and one Chinese panel, where all participants joined heated discussions on the development and prospect of Chinese language teaching in Kyrgyzstan.

The first Kyrgyz International Seminar on the Development and Outlook of Chinese Teaching in Kyrgyzstan held nearby the Issyk-Kul Lake. The Seminar was organized by the Kyrgyz State National University which was committed to: providing a good communication platform for scholars and experts to research the international education of Chinese language in Kyrgyzstan; attracting attention of experts and scholars to the development of this undertaking; promoting research and education in a two-way manner; and better carrying out the work of promoting Chinese language in Kyrgyzstan. Ma Lei, director of the Confucius Institute at the Kyrgyz State National University, said that the Kyrgyz International Seminar on the Development and Outlook of Chinese Teaching in Kyrgyzstan will continue to be held in a sustained manner for long.
