A delegation of 23 young leaders under the 1st Confucius China Studies Program reached Beijing on November 15, 2013 and paid a visit to Confucius Institute Headquarters on the afternoon. Dr. Jing Wei, Deputy Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters and Deputy Director-General of Hanban met the young leaders and had a friendly discussion together.

Confucius Institute Headquarters has arranged a two-week visiting schedule for the young leaders to conduct studies and investigations in Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu on a series of topics concerning China’s political, economic, social and cultural issues. On the afternoon of 16, November, Mr. Xu Jialu, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 10th National People's Congress, received the delegation of young leaders in the Great Hall of the People and discussed with them on the history of China’s Reform and Opening-up and the system of People's Congress. In response to the questions actively raised by the delegates, Mr. Xu provided detailed answers by using keen and understandable analysis on policies and theoretical explanations with reference to historical events for the clues to current issues.

Confucius Institute Headquarters sets up the Confucius China Studies Program to help the youth from other countries of the world gain a deeper understanding of China and Chinese culture, boosting sinology studies, promoting the sustainable development of Confucius Institutes and enhancing the friendship between the Chinese people and people from other countries.

Since the launching of the Program in 2012, scholars and students in the field of sinology and young leaders from all walks of life globally have applied for six sub-programs, including the Sino-Foreign joint doctoral program, doctoral program in China, visiting scholar program under the theme of “understanding China”, young leader program, international conference program and publishing sponsorship program.
