During Madam Xu Lin’s visit, Principal of Ziv Middle School Mr. Yoram Haim and the officials of the Education Department of Jerusalem introduced to the delegation the Chinese teaching in the Confucius Classroom and the Jerusalem region as well as the future development plan, and thanked Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) for its great support. Xu Lin recognized and praised the achievements in Chinese teaching having been made by Israeli middle schools. She said that Confucius Institute Headquarters will continue to support Chinese language teaching in Israel, and will invite some Israeli teachers to China so as to deepen their understanding of China, thus further the teaching level.

Now there are 45 students in four different grades in the Confucius Classroom at Ziv Middle school, who not only take Chinese language courses but also learn Chinese history and culture. Moreover, Israel’s Ministry of Education has decreed that Chinese teaching should be included in the teaching syllabus of middle schools in Israel.

To welcome Madam Xu Lin and the delegation, both the teachers and students of the Confucius Classroom had specially prepared a spectacular Chinese-culture-themed performance. Through the students’ fluent Chinese, the chorus Yueliang Daibiao Wode Xin (The Moon, a Token of My Heart) as well as the calligraphy show, among other programs, the Chinese delegation and the local officials of the Education Department saw the sound development of Chinese teaching in Israel and a more promising future for China-Israel friendship.
