The 2nd Alabama-China Education and Culture Symposium Successfully Held

The 2nd Alabama-China Education and Culture Symposium were successfully held by Confucius Institute at Troy University (CIT). Nineteen experts, scholars and professors from eight universities in China came to attend this five-day symposium and it has achieved outstanding effect.

This symposium was held in Montgomery, capital of Alabama and Troy, the main campus of Troy University. All leaders, professors and scholars from China visited the origin of Civil Rights Movement, State Capitol and met with part of Alabama State officials. After that, they also visited LAMP school, Confucius Classroom under the supervision of Confucius Institute and State Department of Agriculture. In Troy, the main campus of Troy University, delegations visited Confucius Institute and they are deeply impressed by the scale, the area, the equipments and exhibits. What impressed them the most is the achievements CIT has made and they all wish the best prospects for Confucius Institute at Troy University.

The highlight of this five-day event is the academic exchange and communication between Troy University and different universities in China. On the morning of October 9, different universities from China introduced themselves; Troy University and its five relevant colleges also gave an introduction. On the afternoon of Oct. 9, experts and scholars attended the academic presentation and exchange symposium in three different panels in different conference rooms. About four hundred people attended this academic presentations and exchange. The heated discussion after each presentation benefited everyone. On the morning of October 10, Dr. Ingram, Senior Vice Chancellor of Troy University and Dr. Porter, Associate Vice Chancellor of Troy University presided over a discussion on the topic of education globalization. The heated discussion not only was about how to achieve education globalization but also about detailed program cooperation between Troy University and other Chinese universities. It was fruitful discussion. Meanwhile, as a guest speaker, Dr. Dong Jinxia, a professor from Peking University in China delivered a wonderful and informative lecture for about a hundred American Faculty and students on “A Trial of Combining Computerized Program with Physical Exercises for the Promotion of Children’s Core Cognitive Capabilities”. The lecture is highly welcomed and praised. During this week-long symposium, the partner University of Troy, Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology and Troy University discussed relevant joint cooperation program; Professor Qi Lixin, Vice President of Capital University of Physical Education and Sports and his colleagues have discussed relevant education cooperation issues with Troy University. All these talks and negotiations are productive and fruitful and lay a solid foundation for further cooperation.

This symposium got strong support from Dr. Hawkins, Chancellor of Troy University, Dr. Ingram Senior Vice Chancellor of Troy University and great support of relevant colleges and departments of Troy University. Meanwhile, Alabama State officials also attended this event. On welcome banquet, Alabama State official also issued all Chinese delegations the education cooperation resolution between Alabama State , Troy City and these Chinese universities.
