St. Petersburg, May 21st - The beautiful Neva River, the graceful Royal Theatre, the elegant classical ballet; refined and courteous Confucius, charmingly naive pandas, and exquisite and pleasant Mandarin... When the “Chinese Bridge” came to the “Venice of the North”, which owns more than 300 bridges, and when these significant Chinese elements and Russian cultural symbols blend and collide here, how could everyone’s heart not be touched? On May 21st, in such a charming atmosphere, the Second National “Chinese Bridge” Competition for Russian University Students was successfully held.

There is no doubt that the 25 excellent contestants from five competition areas in Russia, who had stood out in the preliminary competition, were at center stage in the competition. The competition consisted of “group conversation”, “impromptu speech” and “question and answer”. Each part was related to the theme of “My China Dream” and cultural exchanges between China and Russia.

After keen competitions, А.Кислов from Saint Petersburg State University, Б.Бородин from Moscow State Institute of International Relations, О.Доржиева from Buryat State University respectively won the first three places. Not only did they win generous prizes and scholarships provided by Hanban, but they will also go to China to participate in the “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students on behalf of Russia as well. The Excellence Award winners were Т.Миронова from Saint Petersburg State University and А. Сенцова from Far Eastern Federal University; А.Кислов from Saint Petersburg State University and Б.Бородин from Moscow State Institute of International Relations respectively won the Best Command of Knowledge Award and the Best Speech Award; and the Excellent Group Award was won by the Far East Representative Team.

Another highlight in this competition for Russian university students was Confucius, a Chinese short play based on the film of the same name, which was jointly performed by teachers and students of the Confucius Institute at Saint-Petersburg State University and the Confucius Classroom at Private Educational Institution . Within several minutes, nearly 20 teachers and students dressed in gorgeous Hanfu (Han Chinese Clothing) not only presented the Chinese teaching achievements in Saint-Petersburg, but also conveyed Confucius’s kindheartedness thinking of “Do not do to others what you would not want them to do to you” to the audience. The performance was unanimously praised. In addition, artists from Saint-Petersburg Ballet performed a wonderful ballet, which left the audience amazed.

Today, the Winter Palace witnessed a real festival, a festival for all people who love Chinese language, love Chinese culture, and are engaged in the friendship between China and Russia. With the help of Chinese language, an audible but intangible bridge, the cultural rivers of the two major countries with great civilization converge here, blend and flow.
