December 5, 2012 and December 6, 2012, Confucius Institute at the Free International University of Moldova held cultural activities to celebrate the winter solstice in two teaching points, “Berezovshi” and “A.I. Cuza” Lyceums. The events aroused strong repercussions in the two schools.

The person in charge from the local Confucius Institute made a presentation about the Chinese traditional festival "Winter Solstice" to teachers and students present at the event. Students were thus further encouraged to learn Chinese. Moldovan students, on the other hand, performed the theatrical piece "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," and a traditional Chinese folk song "Molihua" as part of the cultural program.

After the festive program, the audience was invited in the school’s canteen to prepare Chinese Dumplings and enjoy their taste. Students and teachers from both lyceums showed great intersect in making dumplings, and after that they gratefully enjoyed the delicious Chinese “Jiaozi”.

The activities held at the above schools present a way to celebrate the traditional Chinese festivals. It had the aim to both entertain and offer a broader understanding of traditional Chinese culture, which will consequently result in more interest for and closer cooperation of the aforementioned Lyceums with the local Confucius Institute. We hope that these events had a good impact on the development of Confucius Institute as a promoter of Chinese language and cultural exchange in Moldova.
