HSK Held Smoothly in UADY Confucius Institute

Oct 20th, 2012 - Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK), a Chinese proficiency test, was held smoothly at the Confucius Institute of Autonomous University of Yucatan, which has been the second of its kind this year. Thirty-four candidates sit for the exams from Level 1 to 4. And it is the first time HSK Level 4 took place here since UADY Confucius Institute was included in HSK exam sites.

Jointly established by Hanban, Sun Yat-Sen University and Autonomous University of Yucatan in 2006, UADY Confucius Institute has started recruitment while promoting the Chinese culture at the same time in Merida since 2007. After six-year efforts, it has grown popular in Merida, and more and more citizens have been getting interested in learning the Chinese language as they are fascinated with the traditional Chinese culture and fast economic growth in China. Besides UADY Confucius Institute, some other private universities and language centers in Merida also begin to offer Chinese courses. For instance, three candidates from University of the Mexico´s Valley, Merida campus sat HSK Level I test show complete confidence in the exam and express their resolution in mastering Chinese that they consider both beautiful and mysterious.

According to the latest policy, the application for scholarship in all categories requires a HSKK (an oral Chinese proficiency level test)score in 2013. Applicants for full-year research student scholarship shall score at least 180 in HSK Level 3 and 60 in HSKK Junior Level; Applicants for one-semester scholarship will have to be at least 120 in HSK Level 2 and 60 in HSKK Junior Level. In response, the UADY Confucius Institute plans to add an HSKK exam next year in order to satisfy the requirements for students to apply for scholarship and strive for a chance to study in China. It will also put more efforts in promoting HSK.
