Phnom Penh, November 16th-17th—The Confucius Institute at the Royal Academy of Cambodia successfully launched the Second Training Class on Teaching Materials for Teachers in 2012 in the building of the Confucius Institute. Dr. Chan Somnoble, Deputy Director of the Royal Academy of Cambodia, Chinese and Cambodian Directors of the Confucius Institute as well as teachers of the Confucius Institute, etc. attended the opening ceremony.

As Deputy Director Chan Somnoble said in his speech, the Confucius Institute Headquarters had compiled a variety of Chinese language teaching materials in Cambodian, and selected and sent teachers to Cambodia for teaching Chinese language and culture and to spread friendship. Since its establishment, the Confucius Institute at Royal Academy of Cambodia has organized a great deal of training for teachers, developed the local Chinese language teachers in Cambodia and greatly improved the cultural exchanges and friendship between China and Cambodia.

This training session on teaching materials for teachers lasted for two days and attracted 37 local Chinese language teachers from dozens of universities as well as secondary and elementary schools in Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Kandal, Banteay Meanchey and Siem Reap, etc. in Cambodia. During the two-day training, the trainer gave a detailed introduction to the contents and compiling styles of the teaching materials including the “Happy Chinese” (in Cambodian) and the “New Practical Chinese Reader” so that the trainees could be familiar with the teaching requirements as well as the key points to use the teaching materials and their teaching methods; and to the design and compiling methods of teaching plan and courseware so that the trainees could develop teaching plans independently, make simple teaching aids and multi-media courseware, etc. By learning and analyzing actual teaching cases of the two teaching materials, and organizing trainees to communicate about the problems that appeared in terms of the teaching process, explaining language elements, training language skills and using teaching skills, etc., the teaching abilities of trainees was improved. The Confucius Institute at Royal Academy of Cambodia also launched the exhibition of Hanban’s multilingual Chinese language teaching materials at the conference room of the Confucius Institute so that the trainees could get to know more about Hanban’s teaching materials. It was well received by trainees.

After the end of the training session, the Confucius Institute at Royal Academy of Cambodia presented the Chinese language teaching materials in Cambodian to excellent trainees as gift. Director Wang Xianmiao presented course-completion certificates to a trainee. All of the trainees said that they had benefited a lot from this training and they hoped that the Confucius Institute would hold more training sessions on teaching materials for teachers like this so as to promote Hanban’s teaching materials in a better way and improve the level of local Chinese language teachers in Cambodia.
