TED College in Turkey Successfully Held the "China Day"

The Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University went to TED College in Ankara, Turkey to hold a "China Day" activity on November 2, 2012. TED College, one of the most famous private schools in Turkey, just started to offer Chinese language course for the ninth grade students this semester.

The “China Day” activity included three parts: the photo exhibition of "2012 Chinese Bridge Turkish Middle School Students Summer Camp”, “University Student Summer Camp” and “Turkish Education Delegation in China", the introduction of China and the experience Chinese cultural activities, which were held in the TED high school in the morning, in the middle school afternoon.

Teachers from the Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University introduced China, the world distribution of the Confucius Institute and the Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University. In the auditorium, hundreds of students and teachers enjoyed the slides of Chinese history, geography, diet, clothing, festivals, and films while listening to beautiful Chinese folk music. When they saw the Great Wall, colorful traditional costumes, Chinese cuisine and movie stars-Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, the audience could not help cheering up.

When asked about the capital city of China, traditional Chinese food, Chinese festivals, students rushed to give their answers. As soon as the students dressed in Chinese costumes appeared on the stage, thunderous applause burst from the crowd. After their performance, many other students tried on the costumes and took photos with great interest.

All students were engaged in experiencing the cultural activities. Qingfa Lu’s calligraphy was very popular in TED College. There was a long queue of students wanting to get their Chinese names written with a brush. Jinjuan Chen taught students to make Chinese knots. Yake Wang played shuttlecock with them. Some students concentrated on taking beans with a pair of chopsticks. Students said they had a good time on China day.

The principal of TED College, who had been to China this September, thanked all teachers from the Confucius Institute. Shanping Wang, the director of Confucius Institute, said we would have more cooperation in the future.
