CIUA celebrates the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Madagascar

During the end of October and early of November, 2012, six Chinese teaching sites of Confucius Institute at University of Antananarivo(CIUA) sponsored various activities to celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Madagascar.

The Private Chinese School in Fianarantsoa inaugurated the celebrations on October 25, 2012, more than 300 students participated in a Chinese singing competition in 6 groups.

On October 26, 2012, more than 100 students from University of Fianarantsoa participated in a Chinese writing competition which helped them better understand Chinese language and culture.

On November 6, 2012, over 300 primary school students from the French-Chinese School in Fenerive Est joined in a group Chinese poem recitation competition. Thereafter, 400 middle school students sang Chinese National Anthem in groups, bringing the celebration to a highlight.

In University of Antananarivo, the first year Chinese majors joined in a Chinese writing competition, while the third year students participated in a Chinese recitation or speech competition. His Excellence Chinese Ambassador to Madagascar, Shen Yongxiang visited Confucius Institute on November 7, 2012, and presented a lecture for the faculty and students of CIUA. Ambassador Shen awarded the winners of the competitions together with Prof. Abel ANDRIANTSIMAHAVANDY, President of University of Antananarivo.

School of Chinese Congregation in Toamasina was listed as a teaching site of CIUA in September this year. The school organized Chinese writing competition and student work exposition to celebrate the event. Student parents were invited to attend the awarding ceremony which took place on November 9, 2012 so as to increase their knowledge of Chinese program at the school and expand the influence of Chinese program.

On November 9, 2012, University of Toamasina organized a performance and Chinese Knowledge Contest to celebrate the occasion. For the first time, local students performed Chinese dance with Chinese ethnic costumes. Chinese Consulate-General in Tamatave provided souvenirs for the competition; Gatien P. HORACE, President of University of Toamasina inaugurated in the event and presented souvenirs to the winners.

It is the first time for CIUA to sponsor such celebrations at the same period in several schools, with more than 2000 participants. In a reception held by Chinese Embassy on November 6, 2012 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Madagascar, Ambassador Shen Yongxiang and Malagasy HAT Minister of Foreign Affairs--Pierrot RAJAONARIVELO sang high praise of CIUA’s contribution of to Sino-Malagasy educational and cultural exchanges. On November 7, 2012, Xinhua News Agency in Antananarivo reported the Chinese teaching and cultural exchange programs conducted by CIUA in Malagasy national TV channels and mainstream newspapers.
