ChAT (Chinese with Audio Technologies), a two-year EU-funded Lifelong Learning Project on which the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland has been a vital contributor, has come to a successful closure. Hosted by the Dublin Institute of Technology, this project involved the cooperation of 4 European Confucius Institutes, including the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland, the Confucius Institute at the University of Granada (Spain), the Confucius Institute in La Rochelle (France), and Nuremberg - Erlangen Confucius Institute in Germany, as well as the Beijing Language and Culture University. On September 20th 2012, the last working meeting was held in the Dublin Institute of Technology. Following this, representatives from other CIs visited the UCD Confucius Institute.

ChAT is committed to supporting the development of Chinese language learning materials and multimedia network technology suitable for computers and mobile phones, aimed at resolving the difficulties encountered by learners of different native languages from European Union countries while learning the Chinese tones and words, so as to meet the needs of Chinese learners with different mother tongues, such as English, German, French and Spanish. As one of the major partners in the project, UCD Confucius Institute was mainly responsible for the development of texts and exercises. The project received research funding support from the European Union over the past two years, indicating the rising competitiveness of the Chinese Language as a foreign language in Europe, as well as the possibility of the further popularization of the Chinese Language in Europe.
