Invited by Hanban ( National Office of the Directive Group for the External Promotion of the Chinese Language in China) and organized by Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University, a delegation of 18 Turkish educators paid a one-week visit to Beijing and Xiamen from Sept. 7th to 14th, 2012.

This educator delegation is composed of leaders of many high schools, most of whom are principals or vice principals or celebrities in Turkish Education Association. Visiting China for the first time, they abounded in curiosity and expectation. While staying in Beijing for 4 days, they participated in various activities with great enthusiasm, lingering on Great Wall and Temple of Heaven and fascinated with Forbidden City and Bird's Nest. They knew better and further about Chinese education by communicating with open arms with counterparts in High School Affiliated to Beijing Normal University, and visiting Hanban Headquarters as well as attending lectures about Chinese education. Arriving in Xiamen, a beautiful coastal city, on Sept. 11th, they kept on with their great passion for China in the following three days, warmly welcomed by Dr. Wu Daguang, Vice President of Xiamen University, observing English teaching demos in Xiamen Science and Technology Middle School and sight-seeing on Gulang Island, well-known as Pearl at Sea. They were overwhelmingly impressed with China’s high attention to education by visiting Jimei School Village and Aoyuan, the mausoleum of Chen jiageng, a well-known university and school founder in China.

This seven-day trip resonated much among them. Above all, they learned more and further about China and Chinese people, and spoke highly of China’s development with great sincerity. They sent a letter of thanks to Madam Xu Lin, director general of Hanban/ Confucius Institute Headquarters, to convey their gratitude and expectation for cooperation immediately after getting back to Turkey. Mr. Selcuk Pehilvanoglu, Head of Delegation expressed their desire for further cooperation with China in education, by setting up Chinese courses in Ankara main school this semester and planning to launch out Chinese lessons from kindergarten in the next few years.
