Confucius Institute at UNZA held a successful China’s Charity Day-China and Zambia intimate as one family

On July 13, 2012, the activity “China’s Charity Day- China and Zmbia intimate as one family” was held in Buwanda Basic School of Zambia by Confucius Institute at UNZA, Chinese embassy, China medical teams in Zambia and China military medical group. The opening ceremony was hosted by Principal of the school and attended by Minister of education in Zambia ,Zhou Yuxiao,Chinese ambassador to Zambia, Chai Zhijing, business Counsellor of Chinese embassy in Zambia, Pro. He Yi, Chinese director of Confucius Institute at UNZA and other thousands of people.

Minister of education in Zambia said in his speech that the friendship between China and Zambia had a long history with TAZARA as witness which would never be forgotten by history and Zambian people. He pointed out there were still a lot of Zambian people who knew little about China although China has made great achievements in various fields, expressed his appreciation to Chinese embassy in Zambia and Confucius Institute at UNZA for their work about Chinese picture exhibition, brochures publicity, magazine donation,volunteer medical consultation and benefit performance which had brought about a in-depth knowledge about China among Zambian people, promised to continue to support the development of Confucius Institute in Zambia and encouraged more schools to open Chinese language and cultural classes to make their contributions to the communication between China and Zambia. Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao said in his address that China had always cherished the traditional friendship with Zambia, the two countries in recent years launched a comprehensive, multi-level, wide-ranging cooperation especially in education and the Confucius Institute had made so great achievements since it was established two years ago that the number of schools which provided Chinese language courses was increasing year by year and more and more people were learning Chinese and wanted to study in China, which laid a good foundation for deeper exchanges between the two countries in the future.

After the speeches, Director He Yi presented the students with more than 200 magazines about China’s development such as China today, Beijing Weekly, Cultural Exchange and Confucius Institute, which were warmly welcomed by the students and stimulated their desire to know about China. At the end of the activity was a picture exhibition of famous places in China. This activity “China’s Charity Day- China and Zmbia intimate as one family” was intended to provide an intuitive understanding of China for the students, stimulate their interest in learning Chinese language and culture and build an platform for exchanges between China and Zambia.
