Lusaka, May 26th—The first Youth Chinese Test (YCT) was held by the Confucius Institute at the University of Zambia (UNZA). Candidates from Zambia, North Korea and India took part in the test.

The test was attached great importance by the Confucius Institute at UNZA, which had given adequate mobilization and organized well-targeted training programs. The test has received a warm welcome by the students and their parents. The parents hope their children will learn Chinese language and culture well to lay a good foundation for their personal development.

The Confucius Institute at UNZA has organized Chinese proficiency tests for college students and adults many times since its establishment. The number of candidates has been increasing and some of them have applied for scholarships from Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters. In order to further enlarge the scale and advance the level of Chinese language teaching, the Confucius Institute at UNZA started the teaching program for middle and primary school students this January, and organized the first YCT this month.

The Confucius Institute will continue to intensify the popularization of Chinese language tests, improve training programs, enhance cooperation and communication with other colleges, actively explore new developing approaches for the Confucius Institute and provide more opportunities to study Chinese and take the proficiency tests for learners of different ages and levels.
