Ulan-Ude, March 6th—the Confucius Institute at Buryat State University held an unveiling ceremony for its Chinese teaching location at the Ulan-Ude No. 3 Language Middle School. Ms. Zheng Mingqiu, Education Consul from the Chinese Consulate General in Irkutsk; Ms. Gorbova L.I, an adviser for the Education Commission of the Ministry of Education of Buryat Republic; Mr. Kozulin A.V., Vice President of Buryat State University; Mr. Sharhanov V.S., Principal of the Ulan-Ude No. 3 Language Middle School; the Confucius Institute’s Chinese and foreign directors; teachers, students and their parents from the No. 3 Language Middle School, as well as some teachers from the Ulan-Ude No. 61 Middle School, attended the ceremony.

In her speech, Consul Zheng Mingqiu fully affirmed the achievements of the No. 3 Middle School in Chinese education, and encouraged the students to work hard to learn the Chinese language, so they can make contributions to the friendship between the Chinese and Russian people.

Ms. Gorbova expressed her congratulations on the unveiling of the Chinese teaching location. In her address, Ms. Gorbova highly spoke of China’s long history, brilliant culture and development, and expressed her hope that the students would make full use of the teaching location to learn Chinese language and culture, to serve as bridge of friendship between young people of the two countries.

The Vice President of Buryat State University, Chinese and foreign Directors of the Confucius Institute also expressed their congratulations on the unveiling of the teaching location. Ms. Zheng Mingqiu and Mr. Sharhanov unveiled the nameplate for the location. On behalf of the Confucius Institute, Ms. Zheng also presented an ink portrait of Confucius to the No. 3 Language Middle School, which indicated her encouragement and expectation towards the students. The Institute’s Chinese Director signed a cooperative agreement with the Principal of the No. 3 Language Middle School. The Institute also presented Chinese books to the teaching location.

After the ceremony, students from the No. 3 Language Middle School entertained the guests with excellent performances, including Chinese kungfu, Chinese folk dances and popular songs, which fully demonstrated their love for Chinese culture and art.

The activity came to a successful conclusion with a demonstration of a traditional Chinese tea ceremony by some volunteer Chinese teachers. In the classroom which was filled with the sweet fragrance of tea, the students and guests were immersed in the charm of Chinese tea culture.

The Chinese teaching location will infuse new vigor into Chinese education in local middle schools, and lay a good foundation for Chinese culture to enter into the world of local children.
