Confucius Institute Grand Spring Festival Gala Makes its Debut in Lumbini

On February 3rd,2012, Confucius Institute Grand Spring Festival Gala made its debut in Siddharthanagar, Lumbini. The student actors and actresses from Hebei University of Economics & Business Art Troupe performed songs, dances, acrobatics, magic and ensembles of Chinese traditional folk music instruments erhu and flute. Their splendid performances won rounds of applause and warm cheers. Mr. Tika Rai, mayor of Siddharthanaga and deputy mayor, Mr. Narayan Prasad Sapkota ,president of Nepal-China Friendship society, Lumbini, Mr. Pitambhar Ghimire, Asst Chief District Officer, Mr. Ram Lal Shrestha, former secretary of Lumbini Development Trust along with more than 1000 audiences watched the gala.

Before the performance, Prof. Dr. Shen Fuping, vice president of Hebei University of Economics & Business and head of the Art Troupe, delivered opening speech. He says in order to promote the cultural exchanges between China and Nepal and celebrate the Chinese Spring Festival, at the invitation of Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University, which is the most prestigious Chinese language and culture center in Nepal, China’s Hebei University of Economics & Business Art Troupe arrives in Lumbini to offer Nepali people a stage of wonderful programs will be of great importance. During Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao’s visit in Nepal, China and Nepal have designated that the year 2012 is the China-Nepal Friendly Exchanges Year. And on the same day, Nepali President Yadav inaugurated 2012 Visit Lumbini Year. He believes that the performance will bring the Nepali people new year greetings from China and hope that the friendship between China and Nepal will last forever. Mayor Tika Rai expresses his warm welcome to the art troupe ,saying that this is the first time that Siddharthanaga has ever receive such a high level professional artist troupe ,and believes that the performance will be very excellent.

The troupe is sponsored by Hanban (The Office of Chinese Language Council International). The tour performances are organized by Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University under the guidance of the Culture Section of Chinese Embassy in Nepal. They will make a tour performance in Lumbini, Pokhara, Kathmandu and Dhulikel where Kathmandu University main campus is located.Then they will make another tour performance in Bangladesh.
