In 2012, at the beginning of the dragon year, the Chinese and cultural courses provided by the Confucius Institute at UT Dallas are popular by the students from the university and the local community. This semester, the Confucius Institute has provided Beginning Chinese, Intermediate Chinese, Cultural Studies, China in Fiction & Film, Chinese Art History and Medieval China for 166 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Non-credit courses, such as elementary, intermediate and advanced Chinese courses, have been provided for 30 community students. In addition, the Confucius Salon, Chinese Cultural Forums, has attracted more than 20 local experts and scholars every time.

The students are interested in Chinese both in and out of class. They rehearse Chinese programs to show on 2012 Spring Festival Gala of Confucius Institute by Hanban and perform on the Spring Festival Gala hosted by the Confucius Institute at UT Dallas. The Chinese learners on the weekends come not only from local community but from nearby Oklahoma State. They are eager to know the real China and Chinese long-standing splendid culture through the Chinese learning.
