Teachers and students from the Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University participated the opening ceremony of "2012 Chinese Culture Year in Turkey"

On the 12th of December, the grand opening of "2012 Chinese Culture Year in Turkey" was held in CER Modern Art Museum in Ankara, the capital city of Turkey. Activities are divided into two parts --" Painting on the Silk Road -- Chinese Contemporary Famous Artists Exhibition" and" New Silk Road"--- large-scale theatrical performance. More than seventy students from the Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University participated in this event and the painting exhibition and performances left them a lifelong and unforgettable impression.


The Opening Ceremony of "2012 Chinese Culture Year in Turkey"

The Painting exhibition held at CER Modern Art Museum in Ankara exhibited more than 60 pieces of works created by 40 Chinese contemporary artists when they travelled along the Silk Road. The students appreciated the artwork while trying to recognize the Chinese characters in them. Watching the painters painting on the spot, they said admiringly that it was incredible to draw such fine pictures with a brush in such thin paper.

In the evening, the special performance for Chinese Culture Year --" New Silk Road" was a huge success. Some China's top artists offered a unique, charming, Chinese literary program to Turkish audience in the Ankara Congresium Theater to its full capacity of 1500. Every performance was followed by a burst of thunderous applause. The students of Middle East Technical University thought highly of Peking Opera, Dance“Porcelain”, pipa, and acrobatic, saying excitedly " Music is great! Dancing is wonderful! Peking Opera is really cool with so beautiful costumes! The pipa sounds powerful! In a word everything is perfect!".

The Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University also invited Confucius Institute board members and teachers from other institutes and colleges to take part in this activity. The exhibition and performances, a prelude to a series of more wonderful activities for" 2012 Chinese Culture Year in Turkey" have greatly enhanced the Middle East Technical University teachers and students` interest in Chinese culture.
