Phuket, November 12th, 2011-The Youth Chinese Test (YCT) was successfully launched at the Test Center of the Confucius Institute at Phuket, Prince of Songkla University in the morning. A total of 333 pupils from different changwats in southern Thailand took the test.

The YCT test is designed to assess the Chinese language proficiency of primary school and secondary school students whose first language is not Chinese, and their ability to use Chinese in their daily and academic lives. The Test Center set up 3 test sites at the Phuket Campus, Surat Thani Campus, and Trang Campus of Prince of Songkla University, which offer the YCT written test, which consists of 4 levels (levels 1-4). Primary and secondary students from southern Thailand took an active part in the test and the examinee number reached a new high. It was also the first time that Trang changwat hosted the YCT test.

In recent years, Chinese learning has obtained increasing attention from students and parents, and local children have begun to be exposed to traditional Chinese culture from an early age. Some Chinese families in Thailand still have deep feelings for China and Chinese culture, and hope that their children can master the Chinese language and learn about Chinese culture. The Confucius Institute's faculty members also expressed their hope that they could make greater efforts to offer various test information and services to more Chinese learners.
