Khon Kaen, November 12th, 2011- The Confucius Institute at Khon Kaen University launched the 2011 Youth Chinese Test (YCT). The number of students registered for the test increased to 120, among whom nearly 70 came from primary and secondary schools in Udon Thani.

The test proceeded in perfect order. The examinees concentrated on their test and demonstrated their great interest for learning the Chinese language. The test session included 4 levels, and each level consisted of two parts: listening and reading. After the test, the students said that the test questions were moderate in difficulty, and expressed their hope to take higher levels of test in the future.

To expand the coverage of the test, the Confucius Institute made a special effort to promote the test in Udon Thani, where the majority of the YCT examinees came from, to encourage local pupils to take Chinese tests. It also established partnerships with a number of local primary and secondary schools, urging the schools to include the YCT test in the Scholastic Aptitude Test for primary and secondary schools, and into their school curriculum. Thanks to these efforts, the YCT test aroused intense interest amongst local Chinese learners and was well received, witnessing a sharp increase in the number of examinees.

Beyond that, the Confucius Institute plans to launch the new HSK test on December 4th, and to make greater efforts to promote Chinese tests (YCT, HSK, and BCT) in Thailand, so as to attract more local Chinese learners to take the tests, and expand the international influence of the Chinese test in Northern Thailand and over the whole country.
