Confucius Institute in Belgrade Holds its Class Opening Ceremony and Fifth Anniversary Exhibition at the Special Mathematical High School

Belgrade, October 20 - In the afternoon, the opening ceremony of the second middle school Chinese language class in Belgrade and Confucius Institute fifth anniversary exhibition took place at the Special Mathematical High School in Belgrade. The Principal of the School, the director of the Confucius Institute in Belgrade and representatives from Cultural Office of Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Serbia attended the activity.

In the speeches, the Principal Mr. Ognjanovic expressed exhilaration at cooperating with the Confucius Institute and the glories of cooperating with Chinese educational circles. Pusic, the Serbian director of Confucius Institute introduced background information about the Confucius Institute and the achievements it has made in promoting Chinese language and cultural exchanges between China and Serbia over the five years since its establishment. Chen Yudong – the Chinese director of the Confucius Institute expressed gratitude to the principal Mr. Ognjanovic and the teachers and students who participated in this activity, hoping that students would gain a better understanding of China through a joyful Chinese learning process. The Confucius Institute also presented the Special Mathematical High School in Belgrade with teaching materials and books introducing Chinese culture as gifts.

The Special Mathematical High School in Belgrade is one of the most famous middle schools in Serbia. The students there excel at science. This school is the second Serbian middle school at which the Confucius Institute has offered a Chinese language course. Thirty five students registered for the Chinese class at the School. Nearly one hundred teachers and students from this school attended this activity. Several local press outlets, including Danas, Blic and Kurir etc. provided detailed coverage of the event that day. Last October, the Confucius Institute offered Chinese language course in Belgrade No. 13 Middle School, the first school to offer a Chinese course in Serbia besides the language middle schools. More than 80 students enrolled for the course and Serbia’s most authoritative media outlet Politiken made a detailed front page feature of the school. (Chen Yudong)
