Confucius Institute in Islamabad Hosted the Opening Ceremony of Summer Camps to China

June 10th, the opening ceremony of “Chinese Bridge Summer Camp” and Academy Summer Camp in “2011 China-Pakistan Friendship Year” was held in National University of Modern Languages (NUML), by Confucius Institute in Islamabad (CII). Mr.Liu Jian, Chinese Ambassador and Dr. Aziz, Rector NUML were present and addressed the ceremony. About 150 participants of the summer camp attended this function.

The opening ceremony was unveiled with the majestic presentation of national anthems of the two countries. Dr. Aziz delivered welcome speech on behalf of the CII. He said, “Pakistan and China have similar symbols of identity and share identical dynasty and cultural traits with each other”. He said that the bridge university is intending to build through young students by sharing cultural, educational, spiritual and friendly relations would deepen the Pak China ties to face worldly challenges as both the nations have homogeneity in their cultural traits, norms, physical appearance, educational and economical interests. While addressing the students of summer camp, he asked them to make friendly relations with exchange of knowledge, affection, sincerity, show unity and cultural similarity to build a friendship bridge for Pak China nations.

Afterwards, the representatives of “Chinese Bridge” Summer Camp and Academy Summer Camp took the floor. They expressed gratitude to Chinese government, the Office of Chinese Language Council International and CII for providing such valuable opportunities for them. They highly resolved that they will make their best efforts to learn and experience Chinese language and culture during the summer camp, and play their part to promote Pak-China friendship. All the participants took an oath with hands up after the resolution.

Chinese Ambassador Mr. Liu Jian also delivered a speech at the ceremony. He congratulated the students and teachers to be selected for summer camp. He said that this will not only develop a mutual cultural and educational bound between Pakistan and China, but also stimulate a spiritual relationship, bilateral ties, strategic and political interests between both the countries. Youth to youth interaction is the essence to exchange partnership and also strengthen strategic partnership between both nations to pass on friendship culture from generation to generation.

Then Mr. Liu Jian and Dr. Aziz declared the opening of 2011 summer camps trough presenting the camp flags and beating the drum.

After the opening ceremony, CII students brought well-prepared Chinese programs for the audience: Children dance I have a good father and a Chinese song Chinese people, which were appreciated by the audience.

2011, known as the “Pak-China Friendship Year”, is the 60th anniversary since China and Pakistan have built diplomatic relations. According to "Pak-China Joint Statement” released in December 2010. 100 Pakistani high school students will be selected to participate in the “Chinese Bridge” Summer Camp and 50 college students and adults from other communities will be selected for the Academy Summer Camp. All these camps are sponsored by Chinese government and the Office of Chinese Language Council International. The number of summer camp participants organized by CII will unprecedentedly add up to 150 this year. After the opening ceremony, the campers will visit Beijing, Jinan, Shanghai in China separately for a half month learning and touring trip in the coming weeks.
