Foreign Language Teaching Exhibition—Mandarin Teaching Exhibition held by Confucius Institute at Angeles University Foundation together with Department of Education, Republic of the Philippines
April 11 to 15, 2011, the annual National Secondary Press Conference (NSPC) was held in Butuan city, CARAGA region. More than 6,000 representatives attended this grand meeting, including DepED (Department of Education) officials, principals, teachers and students from different high schools nationwide. Confucius Institute at Angeles University Foundation together with Instituto Cervantes, Alliance Francaise, Goethe Institut and Embassy of UAE (United Arab Emirates) were invited by DepED as co-partners in foreign language programs to undertake the exhibition.
The Chinese Cultural Experience—Mandarin Teaching Material Exhibition provided by Confucius Institute at Angeles University Foundation attracted many representatives. DepEd officials, principals and teachers from different regions raised questions concerning Mandarin curriculum, application for volunteer Chinese teachers, local Mandarin teachers training, Mandarin teaching materials and expressed their eagerness to set up Mandarin course in their schools. Representatives of excellent high school students found the Chinese cultural experience equipments quite interesting and asked their teachers to simulate Mandarin teaching. DepED paid much attention to schools’ request of setting up Mandarin curriculum and promised to render support. In the future, DepED will cooperate with Confucius Institute in setting up Mandarin course in more high schools all over the Philippines.
