The Chinese Conversation Group commenced its first session on Friday the 4th of March, at 11am. The turnout was positive, and students from beginner to advanced Chinese clases congregating to share their learning experiences with Chinese speaking volunteers. The topic was Chinese Spring Festival, and students used comparative structures to illustrate the differences between Spring Festival and other Western festivals. Some of the cultural elements to Spring Festival, such as present-giving etiquette, were discussed.

Beginner students focussed on the four tones and basic greetings, discussing the traditions of Spring Festival in English while the intermediate and advanced students largely spoke in Chinese. The Conversation Group will run weekly at the Confucius Institute.
