Beijing, Dec. 27th, 2010—the ceremony for the first Confucius Institute/Classroom volunteer training workshop was held at Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press International Convention Center. Ma Jianfei, Deputy Director of Hanban, Deputy Director General of the Confucius Institute Headquarters attended and delivered a speech during the event.
Deputy Director Ma restated the speech that State Councilor Liu Yandong’s made during the first national Confucius Institute working conference. He pointed out that volunteer program has become an international trend and the involvement of large groups of volunteers in international Chinese education is a meaningful exploration, which opens a channel for cultivating international talents. In addition, in the name of Hanban, he put forward three requirements for volunteers: firstly, keep the faith in the ideal of serving international Chinese education and have the courage to take volunteer duties and responsibilities; secondly, master basic skills in terms of Chinese language teaching, Chinese culture promotion and cross-cultural communication; thirdly, deeply engage in the training, be open-minded in learning and observe the training disciplines.
Trainee representatives also gave speeches to extend their appreciation to Hanban for providing them with such a good opportunity. They said that they will cherish the chance and learn hard, so as to increase their expertise and improve their teaching skills.
The training was held by Hanban, with the assistance of Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. A total of 250 volunteers hailing from all over China will come to attend the two-month training program. After the training, qualified trainees will be sent to more than 70 Confucius Institutes/Classrooms around the world to teach Chinese starting from December 2011.
